Project: "Lviv regional center for judicial studies"

Main idea of the project - creation of the center in order to ensure permanent training of judges in Lviv. Lviv regional center for judicial studies is a pattern of Ukrainian national system of judicial professional training, that holds training on the regional level. The main task of the center is the organization of permanent professional training for judges of western region of Ukraine, information and methodical support of the training, coordination of the participation of judges in the seminars. Duration of the project: 2002 - 2003 years.

Participants:
Supreme Court of Ukraine;
Court of Appeal of Lvivsky region;
The Council of Judges of Lvivsky region.

Project: "Regional centre for judicial studies of Ivano-Frankivsk"

Main idea of the project - creation of a specialized center for judicial professional training in Ivano-Frankivsk.
The regional centre for judicial studies of Ivano-Frankivsk will become a pattern of Ukrainian national system of judicial professional training, that holds training on the regional level.
The main task of the center is the organization of permanent professional training for judges of western region of Ukraine, information and methodical support of the training, coordination of the participation of judges in the seminars.
Good technical equipment of the center will allow to enlarge the access of judges to the modern training information
Duration of the project: 2002 - 2003 years.

The Supreme Court of Ukraine;
The Court of Appeal of Ivano-Frankivsky region.

Project: "Implementation of the probation elements in the criminal justice of Ukraine on the basis of municipal courts"

Aim of the project: mastering of the probation elements (prejudicial inquiry of the personality of the convicted for infliction of the most appropriate punishment, application of the alternative kinds of punishments (depending on the severity of a crime)) by the criminal-executive inspection of the State department of Ukraine for the execution of punishments, working out the ways and mechanisms of the implementation of the probation institute in Ukraine, support of the drafting of normative legal documents for the introduction of the alteration s in the criminal, criminal procedure and reformatory legislation, acquisition of experience and elaboration of recommendations for the representatives of the penitential system on its basis.

The Municipal court of Yalta

Project: "Judicial defense of the right on freedom and personal immunity according to the article 5 of the ECHR. Training -methodic practical work"

The aim of the project – elaboration of new technique concerning the practical application of art.5 of the ECHR in the judicial practice with the aim of promotion of the efficient defense of the rights on freedom and personal immunity in Ukraine.

Duration of the project: 2003 – 2004

The content of this publication reflects a monitoring exercise conducted in August – September in the framework of Ukrainian-Swiss Project “Support of Judicial Reform. Strengthening of Judicial Independence” to identify key issues with ensuring the constitutional principle of the independence of judges in Ukraine in 2008. The publication explains the monitoring methods, the system of assessment of judicial independence in accordance with the internationally accepted standards and the results of the monitoring accompanied by experts’ conclusions featuring comparisons with similar results for 2007. A reference to the Centre for Judicial Studies is obligatory for any use of information or other materials in this publication.
